New Zealand Day 8 :Tunnel Beach, Dunedin Market and Moeraki Boulders

4/11/2016 Saturday

After we checked out from hotel, we walked along the street and came to this Cadbury factory. I always thought Cadbury is from Malaysia, probably Cadbury chocolate is the famous brand in Malaysia. How naive ..

my face after I found out that Cadbury is not from Malaysia

at a random shops in Dunedin street

We then went to Dunedin Railway Station

And we walked across the road to the Farmers Market whereby it is only held on Saturdays only.

Jou insisted to try this bacon butties which she missed so much since her uni life.

A happy Jou and the owner

One for the memory
And then we went back to the railway station to take some pictures.

The interiors inside the train station

Owhhh you are so beautiful

After non stop of photo session in the station, we then walked few meters away to the Toitu Otago Settlers Museum. It is a museum of social history dedicated to telling the story of the people of Dunedin and the surrounding area, whose character, culture, technology, art, fashion and transport shaped New Zealand’s first great city. Its fourteen themed galleries feature interactive displays and powerful narratives tracing the human history of the area, from the earliest settlers to the most recent arrivals.Captivating exhibitions are complemented by an on site shop and cafĂ©. A well-equipped research centre and archive is available for those interested in genealogy and other aspects of local history.

One of the earliest house in NZ

Need a good balancing though

Different types of computers from different era

One of the bedrooms in the 80s

Ok, enough of the museum, we need to see more natural scenery and hence, Jou drove us to the Tunnel Beach.

Tunnel Beach is located 7.5 kilometres southwest of the city centre of Dunedin. It has sea-carved sandstone cliffs, rock arches and caves

Road to the Heaven

See the tunnel?

Continue walking..

The closest we got is here

As we were out of breath, we decided to stop here for a photo as a memory.

Climbing up is a very tiring

After that, Sing Ee drove us back to her place and then we bid goodbye to her and wished her all the best in writing her thesis, quickly finish and go back to Malaysia ok?

We then continued our journey back to Christchurch and of course on the way back, we stopped by Moeraki Boulders.

The Moeraki Boulders are a group of large spherical “stones” on Koekohe Beach near Moeraki on New Zealand’s Otago coast. These boulders are actually concretions that have been exposed through shoreline erosion from coastal cliffs. Even today, there are still boulders remaining in the mudstone that will, eventually, fall on to the beach as they come lose due to erosion!

The boulders are one of the most fascinating and popular attractions on the South Island.

HIE it's me

Look at the crumpled clouds
Came to a cafe with a million dollar view...

Ordered a Creamy Chowder made with Fresh Fish, Smoked Fish, Shrimps and Mussels with toasted Focaccia bread
As it was so windy and cold on that day, we didn't walk along the beach to look at the spherical rocks. Futhermore, Jou was having a hangover due to the alcohol we had last night.

Found some alpacas at the car park area.

The alpacas in New Zealand are damn lucky to live in such a good view. Remember the ones at Akaroa as well?
Not forgetting the horses a well

I took over the wheel to drive us back as Jou was so-hangover
Overall, the view is not as outstanding as the journey to Queenstown and Dunedin where we managed to stopped for 10 times. The journey from Dunedin to Lincoln is FIVE hours.

But we came to the fields of  yellow flowers on the right side of the road.
Asked Jou to take this photo

Just parked our car by the roadside and it is a private field, hence we are not allowed to enter otherwise I would have enter and jump

Jou recommend this famous roasted lamb in Christchurch.

Only available in Queenstown which we have already missed, so we must try in Christchurch

As this pedro lamb is only available for take-aways, we take-away to Hagley's Park to enjoy

Tadah..

dinner by the lake

Itadakimasu! Overall, I personally felt the lamb was just so-so, nothing to shout about but with such a view, it makes the lamb a little nicer I guess..

A peaceful and serene lake

After dinner, we went back to Jou's cosy house for a quick shower and to unload all the bags and dirty laundry. Later that night, she drove me out to Rottersfield to watch fireworks.

fireworks to welcome me in their country

Jou's friend was there as well and the fireworks and little fun fair in the field really make the whole town up a bit busier and happening as usual

Up next, we "rested' 1 day by doing sightseeing in Christchurch and had the best of time kayaking at the Avon River! Please stay tune for my next post.
